We all want a comfortable, inviting home where we feel at ease in and to show off our personalities. Sometimes achieving that we end up emptying out our wallets buying decor for around the house. There is no need to do this! You can get the look you want by making your own decor. Painting is a great way to set a certain attitude and edge to your home, and creating your own is even a better way to show your personality and it is much cheaper than buying one! You do not need to be Picasso to create a painting. Remember this creation isn't trying to be sold in the Museum of Modern Art, it is intended to be put in your house, for your view and comfort. However, if you still feel a little on the fence about making your own art, there are plenty of places you can go to get "cheap" art. A great website is www.allposters.com. You can order a photo or painting on-line and can either have it sent framed or just as is. A great way to save money is to buy the photo without the frame and frame it yourself. Craft stores always have great deals on frames and mat board, so instead of paying a couple hundred dollars for a painting and frame, you can save by framing it yourself. Another great website that has handmade crafts and paintings is www.etsy.com. Splurging is fun to do once in awhile, but you don't have to make it a habit when decorating your home. You can make your home inviting without spending your entire paycheck!

There was a great article on Sat about ways to use your left overs to stretch your grocery budget. The post mentioned using stale bread to make croutons.

I love making my own croutons. I cut up bread into small chunks, toss them with 1 T of olive oil and italian seasonings. Then I roast them in the oven at 350 until brown.

I also love to blend up stale bread and then put it in the freezer as bread crumbs for meatloaf and breading chicken and making my own onion rings. It is tasty. If a recipe calls for seasoned bread crumbs I just mix in the required seasonings. Keeping the crumbs in the freezer helps them last longer.

I also love to remake bbq pork or beef into enchiladas or tacos. I just freeze the leftover meat until I need it.

And...I am just going to say it. MARTHA STEWART. Magazine and web site. I love it. I can't help myself.

Basically my style tip is my decorating tip. Being clean and smelling nice is 90% of the battle. Everything else is just gravy.

Every night before I go to bed I clean off one area: kitchen table, coffee table, dining room table, hutch, mantle, fireplace. That way when I go to dust or wash the floor everything is pretty tidy.

Although, I do need a better system for bathroom cleaning. I should wipe down the counters every other day, but I don't. I keep the cleaning supplies underneath the counter but I usually am in a rush in the bathroom and don't have time.

Anyone have bathroom cleaning tips?

Our basement is old and damp and when we first moved in it made everything smell old and damp. Then my husband's grandma told me to fill plastic containers full of white vinegar and set them around the house, preferably in the mustiest corners. That really helped.

Also, you can't go wrong with a dehumidifier.
