Back in March, we showed you how to make a candy topiary, but what are you going to do when the candy is all eaten? We reclaimed our edible topiary to make a ribbon topiary that is perfect for wedding or wedding shower decorations. We are using ours for a wedding shower. Our inspiration came from the ParTea Planner’s blog.

Materials:
Save yourself some money and reuse an old topiary or find one at a garage sale and reclaim and redecorate it. Topiaries don’t come cheap. At Michael’s they were selling them from $19.99-$49.99, each!

2 foam balls

2 wooden dowels

1 block of floral foam cut in half

2 clay pots

Ribbon—get it from Michael’s for $1 a spool. We used five $1 spools of ribbon.

Spray paint—this is optional if you don’t want to re-paint your topiary pot

Hot glue gun

Silk flowers or floral moss

Instructions:
1. First, cut your dowels to size. You want them to be no longer than 2 ½ feet if using 6” round foam balls.
2. Spray paint your pots and your dowels.
3. Cut several pieces of ribbon and glue them into loops.
4. Glue each loop onto the foam ball until you cover the ball. We alternated the sizes of the loops and layered the ribbon for a very full effect. This process takes some time and patience, so don’t get too bored.
5. Push half of the floral foam into the painted clay pot. Then insert one end of the dowel into the floral foam and one end into the foam ball, now covered in ribbon.
6. Decorate your topiary with silk flowers or ribbon streamers.

Tips: We found the lovely pearl letter at Michael’s for $1, and the silk hydrangeas we found on sale for $1.99 for one big bloom. The silk roses were salvaged from an arrangement we found at a garage sale for only $2! What a deal.

The pots, dowels and foam balls we salvaged from our Easter edible topiary so we didn’t have to buy new supplies. All in all, it was a cheap project and didn’t cost us more than $30.
