Ever wonder about how clean your produce gets from just washing it with water? Even organic produce can be sprayed with natural substances such as sulfur, copper, dolomite, Bacillius Thuringensis, and diatomaceous earth, according to the Berkeley Farmers’ Markets website.

If you want something more than just water, but don’t want to use store-bought sprays, here’s a simple recipe for making your own wash.

To make: in a measuring cup, mix together:

1 tbsp. lemon juice
2 tbsp. baking soda
1 cup purified water

To use: Pour the mixture in a spray bottle. Spray produce well with wash, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse.
