Five Quick and Healthy Snacks: Budget Food Tip
Looking for a mid-morning pick-me-up or an afternoon energy boost? Here are five ideas for easy, healthy and inexpensive snacks.
1. Veggies. Sliced peppers, baby carrots, and celery sticks provide a healthy, satisfying crunch. Add a couple of tablespoons of hummus (when made with olive oil it contains lots of good omega 3s) for extra flavor.
2. Popcorn. Two cups of air-popped popcorn provides 60 calories and about 2 grams of fiber. For more flavor, opt for Pop Secret’s 100-calorie packs a handy take-along snack that takes all the guesswork out of calorie counting.
3. Apples. Apples are a portable snack that can easily travel in a purse, backpack or even a large coat pocket. A medium-sized apple is about 70 calories. Eat it out of hand, or slice and bag it for later – sprinkle a little lemon juice on the slices to keep them from browning.
4. Hard-boiled eggs. One hard-boiled egg is packed with 13 essential nutrients and only around 100 calories.
5. Dried fruits. We like Sunsweet Sweet & Tart Cherries for a snack, or as an addition to breakfast cereal or muffins. A 5-oz bag retails for about $2.95. A ¼-cup serving is only 100 calories.

I get in trouble with dried fruit. I tend to eat the entire bag instead of sticking to the 1/4 cup recommendation.
But I some how thought eggs had more calories. I guess not. Thanks for the tip.
lol Popcorn is my downfall.... two cups just never seems like enough!
