Mint plants not only smell great and add zing to your tea or other beverages, they also can be used as a natural pest deterrent.

The mint plant – specifically spearmint – is a natural ant repellent and will drive the critters away and keep them from returning. If you have an ant problem inside your home, first find out where they are entering. Then try placing a spearmint plant or two in that area. Tip: spearmint is invasive; rather than planting it in the ground, either plant it in a decorative planter, or first plant it in large basket or other container with sufficient drainage, then plant it in the ground deep enough to hide the container.
